  • October 2009 WWF Everest -Nawang Tenjing Jangbu (Tengbuche Lama)75 years old.Himalaya being dug from Tibet side pollution is increasing as a result of factories at various places. For example, there was no rainfall or snowfall last year. Me and other Lama Thuche Rimpoche sent water pot through Ang Rita Sherpa ( climber ) to the top of Everest. From the day it was put on Everest there was rainfall for 4/5 days. Villagers were happy. There is program to put one water pot in Imja Lake - if he can put a pumba ( pot ) into the lake then this would do good things. For nature conservation of this area we should continue religious worshipping which our ancestors did. He is sad because there is no Sherpa school. In the past Maoist created donation terror. Now Khumbuwan and others are terrorizing with weapon, our protection is very necessary. We believe in religion, otherwise we would be displaced. Sherpa should pay more attention in education than constructing monastery. About Imja there is more talk. I could not make monastery in Imja. School should be opened for up liftment of Sherpa community. There is only propaganda..In the past there were no dogs in our place. Tourists were decreasing. Dogs fallowed upto Everest Base Camp. Then National park started campaign to kill dogs. Many dogs were killed. There was river havoc that year. We should believe in religion so that nature could be conserved.

  • October 2009 WWF Everest -Llama Ddorggi - Buddhist monk Ghat Lama Dorjee is a Lama in Chaurikharka witness Dekcho - 1985 the army issued a warning last year 2008 that the Imja Lake was about to burst and everytone should be ready to evacuate. Foreigners are coming here to do a lot of research but they are not actually doing anything about it - they just study for themselves. The Lama also said that the rainfall pattern and the snowfall pattern has changed in the local area he cant say why that is but he has noticed the change.

  • October 2009 WWF Everest - Village of Ghat with Dudh Koshi river and valley in back with Ang Kandu Sherpa - pictured with river in background what she saw during the Glof in 1985 - The water was rolling down the valley massive flood rolling down - all the cattle and livestock were stranded on the other side of the river ..Black water came rolling down and cut the banks into the farmland and caused the damage. She and all people who live along the bank of the river are worried and concerned about a possibility of a new GLOF - they are always on alert especially during the monsoon season. She is aware of Climate Change and thinks the erratic rainfall and untimely snowfall is due to Climate Change. It is having an effect on their livelyhood. especailly on their farming crops. In the offseason they do farming. The potato which is a staple crop dries up now in the Spring because the rainfall has decreased. She believes if this Climate Change phenonmena continues then there is an increased threat of GLOF ton the people living along the river banks of this river.

  • October 2009 WWF Everest Pangbuche Chosang Sherpa, aged 89: Date: 16 Oct...Persons from different country made just study of Imja. In return we are only terrified if Khumbu glacier bursts then our land will be washed. There is no timely rainfall or snowfall. Sometime there is heavy rainfall. We are afraid of our land being washed away. If retaining wall is constructed then our land would not be washed.

  • October 2009 WWF Everest Mohan Bahadur Katel Date: 14 Oct...Diktel..Khumjung High School Headmaster, Since 2033, Student Nos. 300..Among 20 masters there are 5 females. There are environment change in this area. There is less cold. Water is increased in tap. With big industry air pollution has increased. Snow in Himalaya is decreasing year by year. Monsoon came this year from Pacific Ocean. No cultivation could be done. This has affected Terai belt shifted to this place with their belongings. According to a group sealing Island peak feared then was not that lake before 1956. If Imja bursts it surely creates havoc. The lower it goes the more harm it causes. The cause of its lowering is due to melting of outside snow around. Global warming is caused by increasing various factories in the world. Its impact in Everest Glacier, Goyko Glacier increased more than before; Everest Glacier is more dangerous than Imja. It has reached at the top of Lukla. Not only this, incessant rainfall or snowfall caused by global warming can burst main water outlet...That is why there is more glacier in Khumbu area year after year. Conservation is very important in this area. Tourists are more in this area. Similarly lodges are there. These are to be checked. If tourists go this way then lodge is limited in trekking.
